About the Foundation

Who we are, what we do and how we will do this.

The Georgia Bird Foundation

This Foundation was set up after Georgia Bird, a young singer, took her own life. Georgia Bird was full of life, love and lit up any room she walked in to. She was also very open and honest about her struggles with mental health and was always there for anyone who needed a listening ear. Since Georgia's passing, we want to try and keep her legacy alive, since after all, it's okay not to be okay. We wanted to create something in her memory that would help other people who might be struggling, through the power of music.

To do this, we have started a choir, for young people aged 11-19, aimed at helping improve overall mental health and well-being. It is a proven fact that singing can help release endorphins also known as the 'brains feel good chemicals' and we want to help people find that passion for music that Georgia had that helped her a lot. We want to create a no-judgement safe environment for people to attend and just sing as a group. Build each other up, make new friends, learn a new skill, but most of all have fun.

We are a non-profit organisation who wants to help make a difference in peoples lives but we can't do this alone. As a Foundation, no matter what your circumstances, we want you to feel a part of our community. That's why we are offering this activity free of charge. To be able to do this we rely on the generosity of others to help make this possible. We raise funds throughout the year so we can provide young people a place where they can express themselves through singing, no matter what their individual situation is.

Ellie Marie Scott

Ellie is the founder of the Foundation, also known as Georgia's best friend. Since loosing Georgia, Ellie has been passionate about making a difference in peoples lives, especially those who are struggling with their mental health. Dedicating her life to music, Ellie decided that starting the choir would benefit the local community and give young people a space to be creative and make new friends all whilst learning a new skill.

Ellie is the choir director as well as the founder of the charity. She has over 6 years of professional singing experience and a full diploma in Singing and Musical Theatre with the London College of Music.
